When things feel heavy, try leaning into what feels good.

A small ritual for this moment
At SVA, we talk a lot about practices that help us stay human in this work. One of the simplest—and most powerful—is ritual. Ritual is something that helps us move through the moment we’re in.
Right now, we’re returning to a ritual we’ve learned from colleagues across the sector: shifting into receiving.
So much of our work asks us to reach outward: to ask, invite, convene, request. Receiving is a practice too. And it’s one many fundraisers and organizers have been quietly cultivating for years.
If you want to try it, take a pause and ask yourself:
In your body: What would feel supportive to receive right now? Rest, warmth, movement, a slower breath?
In your mind: What appreciation, permission, or steadying thought could you let in instead of pushing through?
Beyond yourself: Who or what is already offering support that you could accept, even a little?
There’s nothing to accomplish here. No outcome to measure.
Just a gentle shift into letting something good reach you.
We’re glad to be practicing alongside you.
